訃報　近藤孝男先生（本会名誉会員）がご逝去されました

近藤先生は、シアノバクテリアの概日リズムに関する研究で顕著な業績を残されました。先生は自ら開発した機器を用いて、その基本的な分子機構を明らかにし、単純な分子（時計タンパク質、KaiA, KaiB, KaiC）を混合することで、生物時計の試験管内再構成を世界で初めて成し遂げました。また、教育者としても、数多くの時間生物学研究者を育成し、分野の発展に大きく寄与されました。2011年度から2016年度にかけて本学会理事長を歴任され、広く国内外の時間生物学の発展に大きな足跡を残されました。それらの功績は、文化功労者への選出や瑞宝重光章の受章など、数多くの栄誉によって称賛されています。ここに謹んでお悔やみ申し上げます。

We regret to inform you that Distinguished Professor Takao Kondo at Nagoya University passed away on November 16, 2023.

Dr. Kondo made remarkable achievements in his research on circadian rhythms in cyanobacteria. He led the study to elucidate the basic molecular mechanisms using instruments he created himself and was the first in the world to reconstitute a biological clock in vitro by mixing only three clock proteins, KaiA, KaiB, and KaiC, and ATP. As an educator, he has supervised many researchers of chronobiology and contributed greatly to the development of the field. He served as President of the Japanese Society for Chronobiology from 2011 to 2016, leaving a significant mark on the development of chronobiology in Japan and abroad. His achievements have been recognized with numerous honors,  including the Medal of Honor with Purple Ribbon in 2011, the Japan Academy Prize in 2014, and the Person of Cultural Merit Award in 2019.
